Low fire handbuilt ceramic sculpture. Tin white and clear glaze on mixed clay body, underglaze and slips. Finished with gold lustre. Some firing cracks on the base (through numerous raku firings) but entirely stable structurally.
I recently made a series of fish-shaped pourers based on pots made by Picasso in his Vallauris studio period (and in turn on the 'askoi' or anthropomorphised vessels created in Iron Age Phoenecia): simply made with slabs and with handles along the top of their bodies indicating their functional status. I was happy with their simple jaunty poses but I wanted to extend this into a more slippery form. This piece is one of the results: while it is not a vessel it shares something of the heritage of those original pourers.
